International hotel chain Hilton Worldwide announced plans to open 13 new hotels in Turkey, increasing the number of Hilton-branded lodging facilities in the country to 33. Turkey’s bridging position between the East and the West, and the country’s rising popularity as a tourism destination have lured the likes of Nikki Beach Hotels, MGM, Emaar, Bvlgari, Armani, Jumeriah, Shangri-La, Mandarin, Rezidor, Wyndam Hotels and Soho House to invest in Turkey’s various cities. Istanbul, alone, will be home to 100 new hotels, some 40 of them 5-star class, over the next two years, taking the city’s bed capacity to 100,000.
Hilton Worldwide currently has 20 hotels across the country and is set to reach 33 hotels by the end of 2013, as the company announced at the Central Asia and Turkey Hotel Investment Conference (CATHIC) 2012. Didier Martin, Vice President Operations Eastern Europe Israel, Russia and Turkey at Hilton Worldwide, pointed out that Hilton added eight new hotels to its facilities in Turkey last year, including Garden Inn hotels in Urfa and Mardin, both in southeastern Turkey investments.
“Turkey’s share in Hilton’s global hotel openings in 2011 reached 5 percent. Turkey will have 33 Hilton hotels, with a total of 7,000 rooms by the end of 2013,” Martin noted.
Hilton Worldwide has had a presence in Turkey since 1955, beginning with the opening of the iconic Hilton Istanbul, one of the company’s first international investments in Turkey.
